Our 2020 trout trip has been canceled, maybe just delayed, so I decided to go to Helen yesterday. Not many people up there since the canceled the tournament, but that was perfect for social distancing. Was rather nice not being elbow to elbow for a change. First place I picked up a couple and missed one, then decided to go up above town. Found an empty stretch of water and slipped in. Missed a few then changed baits a couple times to find the right color and started catching them rather regular. Caught and released 30-35 by 10:00, then it slowed down when it got hot. Fished until 1:00 and ended the day with 40-45. Best fish was a 14-15" brown.
Yes, the parks on the river are closed as I understand it. Might be moot as well since they have been generating almost around the clock including weekends. I too am looking to get out. I believe the stocking in the mountains is continuing so creeks "up-river" so to speak should be accessible.
