The Vittles one (40 pound),is the one I bought from local Petsmart. But I think they charged me more.
I ordered a replacement cooler drain online (cheap) because I saw a few set up with them. But my container lifts out easy enough, I won't bother.
Online Aquarium supply houses have airline couplings to make it easier to disconnect O2 tank from bubbler line.
Not thinking all the way through, I have my container lid now tethered to one of my handles instead of the crate side. Now I can place the tank and fishes in the back of my truck to transport, instead of back into the crate.

Gamma Vittles Vault Stackables @ petco is like $44 Yeah, that sounds like what I spent. But it is a nice container, and has an O-ring on the screw-on lid. Not that that makes much difference. I hope to get many years of use, so over time I will forget how much I spent on all of this. LOL.

I just have to figure out how you guys turn around to access the well with a net. When it warms I will test more, but I don't feel stable enough to try. I just reach back blind and catch one in my Frabill bucket by hand. Probably shortens lives but that flipping stuff is no fun.

The key ingredient to turning around, or sideways actually, is to keep your head in the center of the boat. It keeps you from leaning too far over. Once you practice it really isn't too bad. But I know those early attempts of mine were quite an awkward time.

Maybe build yourself a really long handled net.

I know this will probably not work during the summer when the weather is warm and the water temps are too high...but, maybe it'll work during spring, winter, and fall? Here is the post that references the bait tube. www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/showthread.php?t=22037&page=2I used to use one when I fished with live mackerel or Sardines in CA...not much drag at all. BTW...the site, www.bigwatersedge.com has a stickied post that's called share your innovations...some amazing stuff on that site and page for kayak fishing for all the DYI'ers on this site.

This might be a stupid question but should i just start off with the frabill bucket set up or could i get away with using a basic aerator on one of those vittles 40's and moding it over time?

Honestly,...there is nothing special about the frabill bucket. It is basically contain three things. 1. a bucket + lid 2. foam insulation 3. a hole to hook your aerator to. ...this plus the Aerator for $35ish.
Or you can buy a separate Aerator for $12ish and create your own container if you know what you want.

I would go ahead and get the larger container and have a base that can be added to over time. I believe I will switch because I do believe healthier bait draw more strikes and it is marginally more expensive to get the bigger container.

I am very impressed with some of the live wells our members here have built. Altroach posted this site which features a cooler being transformed into a live well.... I really like that one too and it is a reasonable build and not too costly. Here it is again if you missed it. palmettokayakfishing.blogspot.com/2011/09/deluxe-diy-kayak-bait-well-with-light.htmlAnd I also really like Frogslayers' rig too....very well done. As most of you know, I do not use live bait anymore. No one particular reason, really. Butt...... if I was to consider it again, the cooler on the palmetto kayak site would most likely be the way I'd go, plus, integrating an oxygen setup into the build, would, for me, be mandatory (since I have used it before with extremely good results, esp on those fragile bluebacks). But this thread sure shows some very nice set-ups. I hope I can get some close-up looks at many of them soon! Cheers! p_rod

after some google'ing, I think I've found a good base to start with: I do like the one paul have more though. Now I have to find an empty one! I think this is the one I used except I used what they are showing as the bottom as the back side of mine.

That would be awesome for live shrimp or mud minnows in the marshes Reds or Trout. Thanks for the suggestions.

Like so many folks on this forum, we are glad to help whenever we can. Those prices are crazy, but like atiroach said, for folks who are DIY-constricted, it may beat not having something at all. IF your are a DIY-constricted member of our forum, and you want something build/put together, just ask.

Go big or go home.
50 gallon bait tank. klag , I love the Soup guys they are about 20 mins from me in "Downtown" Acworth. I buy a good amount of bait from them when I fish the rivers. That isn't even the biggest tank Shawn(Chef) makes, you should see the one he keeps in his boat. I've tried to get him to make one that would work on a kayak but they are all super tall.

Is a Pump System even viable here in Georgia?
In summer, the water is too hot for BB... I guess if you only ever use minnows then it would be alright.

I guess if you only ever use minnows then it would be alright. darian: Back in the day, one of our members had a pump system and to avoid the 88 degree waters of summertime and to also avoid having to drop ice into his bait system, he'd lower a 15-20 foot section of old garden hose overboard to a depth where the water was MUCH cooler. He'd never use his valuable ice keeping his beer cold that way! He also used a smaller pump to reduce the turbulence to the bait and he had great luck with his set-up.(He DID use oxygen, though). BTW-since oxygen is compressed, it is fairly cool...so when I was using with an insulated (on the outside) 5 gallon mud bucket, I never had a problem with water temps. YMMV! Cheers! p_rod
