My son joined me on the upper Hooch float Saturday to celebrate my Birthday. The rain the night before had the water level up a little bit and was quite muddy...but still a great day, great company, and a great place to be...fishing. We put in at Mossy Creek State Park and floated the 6 mi trek back down to Belton Bridge Park. The fishing seem a little slower and mostly the smaller bass seemed to more eager to bite. I picked up a few on the fly rod and got my 1st shoalie on a striper popper. A really scenic float and a great way to celebrate a birthday. Jim

Happy birthday and thanks for the pics! I wanna float the Hooch up there before this summer is out. Good you guys could still catch some fish even with that turbid water.

A perfect birthday. Wish I could have joined you. Honey do list and big trees that needed to be made into little trees in my yard took precedence. Next time for sure!

I fished up by Belton Bridge about a month ago and had decent luck. Caught a couple spots and a couple stripers.

Do you know if mossy creek has camping. Im planning an over night trip in the area. I don't think anything has been developed other than the boat launch. The state park is not officially open. The creek is a popular white water kayaking spot and not sure if the launch was built by their group or GA state park. Don Carter State Park is the only public camping I know of in the area. The river has been really low and you might need to find out more on conditions before you float. Good Luck and hope to see your post. Jim Native Slayer 14.5 Wilderness Tarpon 100

Thanks man. Were not going till spring. My plan was to do from belton bridge to clarks bridge. Stop and camp at don carter. Im just afraid about the physical part of the paddle. From what ive seen its a slow moving area.

From what ive seen its a slow moving area. The area around Belton bridge is def. slow river current and will need to paddle. Don Carter to Clarks bridge is more open water Lake Lanier paddling and there it will depend on wind and direction of the wind. Jim Native Slayer 14.5 Wilderness Tarpon 100
